Vision Tech: Enhancing Machine Vision with Optical Filters: Practical Techniques for Real-World Applications
21 January 2026 • 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM PST | West Expo Stage 1 (Moscone West, Exhibit Level)
This session will explore how optical filters can dramatically enhance machine vision systems in industries such as agriculture, semiconductor inspection, and industrial manufacturing. By selectively transmitting specific wavelengths and blocking unwanted light, optical filters improve image contrast, reduce noise, and enable faster, more reliable inspection and automation, without the need for complex or expensive equipment.
We’ll examine practical examples of filter-based imaging systems, ranging from drone-mounted cameras used in precision agriculture to high-speed inspection lines that identify defects or material properties in manufacturing.
Attendees will learn learn the basics of optical filters, such as, what they are and what they do; optical filter types, how to choose filters, and how short-wave IR (SWIR) light can enhance vision applications, how filters can be used in basic low-cost multispectral applications, as well as various applications where filters are used.
Designed for engineers, integrators, and developers, this session delivers actionable insights into how optical filters can extend the capabilities of machine vision systems, making them more precise, efficient, and cost-effective.
