Because of the number of visa applications and the need for thorough security reviews, the visa application process may take several months. SPIE strongly encourages travelers to apply for their visas as early as possible — at least three to four months before the visa is needed, and book your embassy appointment as early as you can after the acceptance notification date. To request an invitation letter from SPIE for visa application, submit an Invitation Letter Request (must be signed into SPIE account to apply).
SPIE recommends that you secure your travel visa before registering for the conference as cancellations after the registration refund cutoff will result in denial of your registration funds.

Because the application for a visa can be a lengthy process, we recommend that you begin your visa application process as soon as you have been notified that your abstract has been accepted for presentation.
