Integrated silicon nitride photonics for light shaping in the life sciences (Invited Paper)

Abstract
I will review our recent work on optical phased arrays in silicon nitride technology and their hybrid integration with extended cavity lasers. Our application fields cover light sheet microscopy, flow cytometry and ophthalmology.

Jeremy Witzens is a Professor at RWTH Aachen University and the Associate Vice-President for Optical Connectivity at Astera Labs Inc. He received his PhD and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and his Engineering Diploma from the Ecole Polytechnique, France. He has been the general chair of the 2024 European Conference on Integrated Optics (ECIO) and of the 2017 IEEE Group IV Photonics Conference (GFP).
