DIAMOND SA has set a new benchmark in fiber optic connectivity by developing ultra-low loss (ULL) connectors. These connectors reduce coupling losses caused by lateral and angular misalignment at the mating interface.
By leveraging advancements in its proprietary Active Core Alignment (ACA) technology and tighter manufacturing tolerances, DIAMOND has achieved record-breaking performance without compromising reliability, repeatability, or yield.
The most recent results obtained with E-2000® single-mode connectors at a wavelength of 1550 nm show an average insertion loss of 0.017 dB and 0.042 dB for 95% of connections in random mating tests, according to IEC 61300-3-34.
ULL technology has been applied and tested on different fiber types, including standard and polarization-maintaining fibers, at various wavelengths. The reliability and precision of DIAMOND's connectors have been confirmed through rigorous testing at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) using high-accuracy, specifically developed instrumentation.
DIAMOND is expanding the availability of ULL connectors to other wavelengths and connector types. Due to the tight correlation between the distributions of core offsets measured at 100% and coupling losses, the performance of various core sizes can already be estimated. If you're interested in developing custom configurations, please share your requirements. DIAMOND is ready to craft tailored solutions, from fiber types to operating wavelengths.
