Profile Summary

Mehdi 'Arash' Feizpour (19/08/1995) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Biophotonics Laboratory of Brussels Photonics (B-PHOT), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). After completing his European Master of Science in Photonics at VUB, he pursued his PhD at B-PHOT within the framework of a multidisciplinary project. His doctoral research, titled "SERS-Based Lab-on-a-Chip for Machine-Learning-Enabled Bacterial Screening", focused on the development of spectroscopic medical diagnostic tools by combining optics, microfluidics, biochemistry, and machine learning.

As of May 2025, Arash has continued within the same team as a postdoctoral researcher, contributing to PhotonHub Europe projects and furthering the development of SERS-based lab-on-a-chip platforms for rapid diagnostics. His work remains highly interdisciplinary, sitting at the crossroads of nanophotonics, medical biology, and artificial intelligence. He is also active in teaching, student supervision, and writing research proposals aimed at translating ongoing research ideas into real-world clinical tools.

Arash has maintained a strong track record of academic productivity, publishing both within and beyond his PhD framework through extensive collaborations with teams across Europe. He has played a vital role in community-building at B-PHOT, co-founding and hosting the Photcast Series, leading the B-PHOT Student Chapter for three years, supervising student projects, and helping organize outreach and scientific events. His entrepreneurial spirit is reflected in his ongoing efforts to bring patented innovations to market.

Outside the lab, he enjoys photography, photomontage, music, cinema, and social events. Looking forward, Arash aims to deepen his impact in translational medical optics, expand his skills in medical imaging and image processing, and grow as an entrepreneur in the field of photonic healthcare technologies.
