Weida Hu is Fellow of SPIE, IEEE, and Optica, the vice president of Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the head of State Key Laboratory of Infrared Physics, and a full professor (Principal investigator) on infrared photodetectors and intelligent recognition chips for space applications in Shanghai Institute of Technology Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has authored or coauthored more than 200 technical journal papers and conference presentations, including Science, Nature Photonics, Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Electronics, and Nature Sensors, with the total citations of 33800 and h-index of 103 (Google scholar). He has held 53 Chinese patents and 2 US patents. He received the Innovation Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2025, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2017, China Youth Science and Technology Award in 2019, National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars in 2013, National Program for Support of Top-notch Young Professionals in 2015, and Royal Society-Newton Advanced Fellowship (UK) in 2017. He received Highly Cited Researcher (Clarivate) since 2022. He is also serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Infrared Physics & Technology, and the Executive Chair of Earth & Space: from Infrared to Terahertz International Conference (ESIT).
