Profile Summary

Prof. Subhananda Chakrabarti received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic Science from the Department of Electronic Science, University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India in 1993 and 2000 respectively. He was a Senior Research Fellow with the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, from 2001 to 2005, a Senior Researcher with Dublin City University, Dublin City, Ireland, from 2005 to 2006, and a Senior Researcher (RA2) with the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, U.K., from 2006 to 2007. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India, in 2007. Presently, he is a Professor in the same department. He has extensively researched molecular beam epitaxial growth, and characterization and fabrication of semiconductor optoelectronic materials and devices, such as quantum dot laser, inter-subband detectors, and vertical-cavity surface and emitting lasers. He has authored or coauthored more than 430 papers in international journals and conferences. He has guided/graduated 17 PhDs till date and 13 more PhD students are still working under his supervision. He demonstrated a completely indigenous infrared focal plane arrays, which could image human signature. Dr. Chakrabarti is a reviewer of various international journals of repute such as Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, IEEE PHOTONICS TECHNOLOGY LETTERS, the IEEE JOURNAL OF QUANTUM ELECTRONICS etc. He has also coauthored a couple of book chapters on inter-subband quantum dot detectors and four monographs of his have been published by SPRINGER. He is the recipient of the MRSI medal (2016), NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award for Application Oriented Innovations in Physical Sciences (2016), Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, INAE (2020), Fellow IETE, etc. He is a Fellow of SPIE, a Senior Member of IEEE (USA) and a member of OSA (USA).
