Dr. Philipp Matten

Philipp received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Medical Engineering at the Universities of Stuttgart and Tuebingen, Germany. During his studies, he gained experience in industry, working on computer vision, medical image processing, machine learning, and hardware development (intra-surgical imaging systems) for medical devices.

He subsequently received a PhD from the Medical University of Vienna in Medical Physics. His pre-doc research interests revolved around translational applications of OCT and surgical microscopes in ophthalmology, and GPU-accelerated medical image and data processing.

Philipp has been with the 'Corporate Research & Technology' Department of Carl Zeiss AG (Karlsruhe, Germany) since late 2023, working on a diverse range of topics at the intersection of industry and academia. Past and current research activities include 'novel compute paradigms', medical robotics, and biophotonic imaging applications, with a focus on algorithm development, machine learning, and optical coherence tomography.
