Profile Summary

Prof. Dr. Nan-Fu Chiu is a Distinguished Professor in the Laboratory of Nano-Photonics and Biosensors at the Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Taipei, Taiwan. He is an active member of several international professional societies, including IEEE, SPIE, OSA, the Taiwan Photonics Society (TPS), and the Chinese BMES. He has also held significant leadership roles, serving as Director of the Taiwan Association of Chemical Sensors (ACST) from 2018 to 2026 and Director of the Taiwan Industrial Technology Association (TITA) from 2021 to 2026.

Prof. Chiu has been recognized with numerous prestigious honors, including the Outstanding Young Scholar Award from ACST and the Reward for Special Talents Award from NTNU (2017–2024). He also received the Excellent Young Researcher Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology (2020–2023), acknowledging his influential scientific achievements.

His current research centers on the design and development of advanced Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) sensing technologies, including Active-SPR systems, SERS-enhanced platforms, and biosensors based on two-dimensional materials such as graphene and MoS₂. His innovations have significantly advanced the fields of plasmonic detection, nano-engineered sensing interfaces, and biomedical diagnostics.

In 2022, 2023, and 2024, Prof. Chiu was recognized by Stanford University as one of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” based on global Science Impact Rankings, underscoring his sustained contributions and international influence in nano-photonics and biosensor research.
